Arizona Man Arrested After Neighbor Found Dead in Backyard; Suspect Allegedly Lived in Victim’s Home for Weeks

Authorities in Arizona have arrested a man in connection with the death of David Jimenez, 57, whose body was discovered in the backyard of his home following a welfare check on January 12, according to reports from KSAZ and Arizona’s Family.

Police were called to the residence after a neighbor reported not seeing Jimenez for several days and expressed concern due to unusual traffic coming and going from the home, suggesting someone else may have been living there. When officers arrived, they spotted Jimenez’s body in the backyard and made contact with an individual barricaded inside the house.

After what police described as an extended barricade situation, Xzavion Johnson exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

According to investigators, Johnson allegedly admitted to breaking into Jimenez’s home on December 29, 2025, with the intent to steal. During that incident, Johnson reportedly shot Jimenez three times, killing him, and then remained living inside the victim’s home for weeks afterward.

Court documents cited by Arizona’s Family state that Johnson allegedly stole the handgun used in the shooting. Authorities found Jimenez’s body wrapped in a blanket and in an advanced state of decomposition when it was discovered.

In a troubling twist, reports indicate that Johnson’s own mother initiated the welfare check after noticing a foul odor coming from Jimenez’s backyard and realizing she had not seen her son since late December. When she went to check on Jimenez, she reportedly found a package on the front porch addressed to her son, raising further concern.

Johnson remains in custody with bond set at $1 million cash. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and review the circumstances surrounding the case.

Police have not released additional details at this time, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
